ENERGY STAR®

The Schools for Energy Efficiency® (SEE) program and participating school districts are all ENERGY STAR Partners - in fact they are leaders in the nation for K-12 awards!

ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program helping businesses, schools and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR offers technical expertise in asset upgrades, building energy management, and energy efficient products.

As part of the SEE program goals, school facilities work towards ENERGY STAR Labels, which recognize buildings whose energy performance ranks in the top 25% in the nation based on a national scale of 1-100 for similar building types. In addition, districts are also awarded for district-wide success through ENERGY STAR Leader awards that recognize 10, 20, 30 percent improvements or average ratings of 75 or better portfolio-wide.

SEE school districts are a great candidate for this award; in fact, West St. Paul School District 197 was the 1st to receive this award in Minnesota and the 10th in the Nation. Currently, there are 17 ENERGY STAR Leader award recipients in the SEE program out of only 79 in the nation and over 100 schools qualify for or have received the ENERGY STAR Label.

The SEE program also recently received a national award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - 2007 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year.
